3D printed shoes have already caught the attention of big brands and startups alike. The growing popularity and creative freedom of 3D printed shoes has allowed us to see a range of projects ranging from traditional boots to sneakers for planting plants or the use of more recyclable materials and artistic expression on the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week. One of the latest entries is the ASICS ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDAL. Launching on August 1st, the ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDAL is the latest in a line of 3D printed footwear produced in collaboration between sportswear giant ASICS and California-based 3D printing company LuxCreo. The duo has previously collaborated together notably on their 3D printed flip flops and the previous iteration of the fully 3D printed ACTIBREEZE™ 3D SANDAL.

In fact, LuxCreo has made a name for itself as a leading provider of end-to-end 3D printing solutions over the years, distinguishing itself with its focus on using AI-enabled software and advanced design. In this case, the partners also used LuxCreo's Smart Factory Production service to produce the ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDAL. " Our collaboration with ASICS is a testament to the forward thinking that drives our companies. By bringing to market a custom hybrid 3D printed footwear product, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible and building a partnership that thrives on innovation and excellence explained Michael Strohecker, co-founder and chief revenue officer of LuxCreo. " Together, we're pushing opportunities into footwear. "

Improved recovery between sports sessions with ASICS' 3D printed sandals

The new ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDALS are made of elastomeric material and feature a 3D printed footbed. LuxCreo elastomer is characterized by very high elasticity, while meeting the AFIRM RSL standard. These features are seen in the insole, which is printed in a grid structure, providing greater comfort and breathability. The design of the sandal has been modified to provide additional benefits to the user compared to the previous model. In addition, a new addition is a central strap that keeps the insole in place, provides greater support to the foot and improves recovery before your next sports session.

The sandal is designed for all sports enthusiasts who want to improve their performance. According to the press release, every new product design at ASICS is based on test data, user experience and research. For more than 30 years, the ASICS Sports Science Institute has scanned and documented the feet of more than 1 million people and incorporated more than 100,000 biomechanical tests into the design of ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDALS.

Chris Ekman, Senior Manager of Global Product Line Footwear, explained the importance of intensive testing phases to product design: “At ASICS, we know that if our goal is to help everyone achieve a healthy mind in a healthy body, our products must go beyond being trusted partners for the runs and races themselves. We are also committed to exploring the moments before and after performance, as these phases are critical to performing at your peak when it matters and preventing injury. That's why we're so excited to launch the ACTIBREEZE™ HYBRID SANDAL today, providing plush comfort and relaxation when runners need it most during those all-important rest and recovery periods.”

Optimized recovery time has a positive impact on preparation for the next race, the next run or the next workout, which in the long run leads to increased performance, improved form and better well-being. Thus, ASICS remains true to its motto, which is also embedded in the acronym of the brand name. ASICS stands for Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, which is Latin for "A healthy mind lives in a healthy body."
